Kimberly McNeal is a Registered Cardiac Sonographer working in the field of Diagnostics Medical Sonograohy. A wife and mother of three, She has over twenty years of healthcare experience. In 1993, she began working Wishard Memorial Hospital. After working in the department of transportation for less than a year she was offered a job at Indiana University Health. She worked in the operating room as a Patient Service Assistant. She was responsible for restocking and maintaining eighteen surgical suites. During her seven years of working in the surgery department, she was able to observe any case from plastic surgeries to Coronary Artery Bypass Surgeries (CABG), cardiovascular perfusion and even heart transplants. It was there she became more astonished by the heart ability to function from advanced life saving technology. Continuing her work in surgery, she began taking classes to become a registered nurse. Engrossed by her cardiac anatomy and physiology classes, and becoming friends with a colleague who worked in cardiac ultrasound, she became interested in Echocardiography. She decided her future would be in the world of Diagnostic Medical Sonography in Echocardiography. At the time of her transition from nursing to sonography, she found there were no local schools in the Indianapolis area that offered training in Cardiovascular Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The closest school would be in Gary, Indiana. She learned there were traditional and non-traditional approaches to her dream. She found medical assistants to registered nurses and even physicians who trained and transitioned into Echocardiography but the training was rigorous and time consuming. In 2001, she completed her educational program of studies in Telemetry through St. Vincent Hospital. A Telemetry technician and Cardiovascular technician is trained to interpret and monitor electrical heart rhythms and perform cardiac stress tests for Cardiologist. By this time she was working as a full-time Telemetry technician and Cardiovascular Technician (CVT). Her heart's desire continued to learn Echocardiography. In 2002, she received a call from Community Hospital East and offered a position as an Invasive Cardiac Catheterization Lab Specialist. She trained to start IVs, pull and sow in sheaths to the femoral artery, inject contrast dye into the arteries with the use of fluoroscopy. This procedure was in the event of blocked coronary vessels and active Myocardial Infarction, known as a heart attack. As God would have it, she met her mentor Dr. Edward Harlamert, a cardiologist she often worked with in the cath lab. Dr. Harlamert approached Kim about training in Echocardiography without knowing how hard and long Kim had been in pursuit of this desire. In 2004 she was sent on a fully financed trip by Dr. Harlamert's group, Heart Partners of Indiana to complete a course at the Keith Mauney & Associates Ultrasound Training Institute in Orlando Florida. Kim has had the joy of working with courageous and brave patients. She has administered many echocardiograms from patients dealing with cancer, transplants and even her most recent challenge a nationally known Ebola patient this past 2014. In 2011, the vision began for her own ultrasound company by the name of Pure Heart Diagnostics, LLC. The best part of her job has been meeting the people that make her smile. Her patients. "They make me grateful everyday because I realize I have nothing to complain about because the roles could always be reversed. That's the best healing there is".
